When it comes to caring for the furry residents of St. Helena, California, groomer and pet rescuer Shay Michaels can handle anything. Humans are another story, though—especially Deputy Jonah Baudouin. He’s the town’s resident superhero upright, uptight, and jaw-droppingly gorgeous, even when he’s investigating complaints about Shay’s beloved foster animals. And that spells danger for Shay, a free spirit who can’t risk trusting the wrong person again.
Jonah and Shay have been circling each other ever since she came to town, and he’s running out of reasons to not kiss her senseless. But this deputy is a straight shooter with his eye on the sheriff’s badge. He can’t afford to get involved with Shay, a chaos magnet with luscious curves who’s liable to turn his career—and his life—upside down. He enforces laws. She breaks them—repeatedly. Keeping her out of trouble is becoming a full-time job…and it’s one he hopes is never going to end.
Need You for Keeps Heroes of St Helena Book 1 edition by Marina Adair Literature Fiction eBooks
This is a well-written story of a young woman who is desperate to find a place to be accepted. She has a passion for animals and it shows in her every action. The male character is a dedicated, by-the-books Deputy. There are a few typos in the digital version, but I didn't find many nor were they distracting to the flow of the story.

Need You for Keeps Heroes of St Helena Book 1 edition by Marina Adair Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Great start to a new series. I enjoy Marina Adair's quirky characters, felt the pull of emotion for the hardships her characters had suffered, and got frustrated when yet another thing went wrong for Shay. I laughed, I cried, I loved every minute of the book. Was it all "realistic" (per other reviews)? No, but this is fiction and some of that creative license is what makes it fun to read and an escape from real life. I had a hard time putting this book down and anxiously await #2 in the series!
A fun romp of a book, starring the town's sexy deputy and an animal lover woman. She gets into trouble all the time and he gets to rescue her all the time too. He loves control and she's constant chaos. There are a lot of dogs and kittens, horny old biddies, a horny old uncle, friends who help and support, and a ferocious uppity old lady with a diva pomeranian who wants revenge for the upper dog lady position in town. The laughs and action don't stop. It was a little complicated with all the characters, human and otherwise, but very entertaining.
I loved this book so much!! This was my first book by Marina Adair, and I can't wait to go back and read the rest of the series. I'm a sucker for any book with a dog on the cover, and animal rescue is particularly near and dear to my heart.
Shay was an endearing heroine, and Jonah was swoonworthy as the badass deputy torn between his duty and his feelings for Shay, who often skates on the wrong side of the law (although always for the right reasons). There were plenty of LOL moments and also moments that brought tears to my eyes.
Everything I love in a romance! Bump this one to the top of your TBR pile! )
Found this book by Marina while looking for other books that had dogs as part of the story. I had never read anything by her before. It’s a sweet story filled with zany friends, really cute animals, townspeople that know everyone, wine country, relatives, and rescues! My four rescued dogs each gave it a paw up! Already ordered the next one in the series. This is definitely an author that I will continue to follow!
I'm thinking I may just love the Heroes of St. Helena even more than St. Helena Vineyard. Jonah was an awesome hero, impossible not to adore for his straight-laced commitment to the law. Shay was a lovable mess, impossible not to admire for her passion and conviction for rescuing animals. Together they were playful opposites who clashed and fit well all at once. Their chemistry was incredible, their story was easy to fall into and the book was impossible to put down. I read the whole thing in a day and now I'm sorry I did because I'll have to wait forever for the next book. I saw that Dax and Emerson will have their story out in October and then I'm hoping for Adam and Harper for the one after that which will be out in Spring of 2016. Both are much too far away.
One note to fans of the former series, outside of a very small part for Frankie, the characters from St. Helena Vineyard were not in this one. In fact, it probably wouldn't even be necessary to read the former series to enjoy this one.
Charming! Marina's hero, hunky Deputy Jonah, and her quirky heroine, pet groomer/rescuer Shay were a perfect match! If you enjoy colorful, quirky characters, both two-legged and four-legged, small town romances, and a touch of heartwarming humor, this delightful book will fill the bill. Shay is a "take no prisoners" straightforward gal with a difficult past, while Joah suffers from guilt for something that happened five years and another police department ago. Though Shay has a tendency to . . . bend the rules, and sometimes break the law, Joah recognizes and appreciates her innate goodness, big heart and loving nature. He just can't help himself when it comes to helping her out of one jam after another. He's running for sheriff, though, and her latest caper puts his dreams in jeopardy. He's a stickler for the law, and she's a stickler about animal rescue. Can the two find common ground? Read it and find out. Very entertaining.
This story grabbed me right from the start. It was so much fun to read. Doesn't mean I didn't want to shake the both of them a time or two.
The story kept me cheering Shay on for her efforts to succeed, even when she broke the law a time or two. Who could really blame her, she wanted these poor animals to find their forever home, something she never had, and craved more than anything. She had such a big heart, I just wanted to hug her.
Jonah was a man of the law that always went strickly by the book, until it came to Shay. He couldn't deny her big heart, and he knew she was only doing what she thought was right for her animals. He admired her for that and her drive to succeed at all cost, but he also had his limits.
The big question here is....will these two be able to set their differences aside? Or at least come up with a compromise, in order to make a relationship work out between them?
Guess you'll just have to read it to find out.
This is a well-written story of a young woman who is desperate to find a place to be accepted. She has a passion for animals and it shows in her every action. The male character is a dedicated, by-the-books Deputy.
